The Queen v NC
NC was detected by Customs Officials at Sydney Airport carrying 11kg of Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride in her luggage. She was charged with import a commercial quantity of prohibited goods.
The Pseudoephedrine was concealed in food products NC had unwittingly brought into the country from Vietnam. NC denied knowledge of the Pseudoephedrine contained in the goods. The matter proceeded to a Trial before a jury in the District Court. Chris Cole instructed Ian McLachlan of counsel at Trial.
After all the evidence was given, the jury returned a verdict of ‘not guilty’. This was an amazing result for NC, as the client could have been facing up to 25 years imprisonment if a finding of guilt was made by the jury.
