The Queen v JL
JL was charged with one count of robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon, contrary to the Crimes Act 1900.
JL was initially granted bail in the Local Court. Whilst on bail, JL was alleged to have committed a further offence of supplying a prohibited drug. He was refused bail in the Local Court, due to the fact that the offence occurred whilst he was already on bail.
Mr Christopher Cole made an application to the Supreme Court for his release. The fact that JL had committed a further offence whilst on bail triggered the 'show cause' requirement. In the Supreme Court the presiding Magistrate accepted that JL had shown cause, and he was released on strict conditional bail. This was a fantastic result for the client considering the nature of his case.
